Doughboy Pool – Tuscany
Printing Process:
Rotogravure for wall; roto-molding for frame
This pool was, and still is, the first above-ground pool designed with a roto-molded frame. I collaborated with the engineers to design this product - vertical pillars, bottom rails, wall, and liner. The roto-molding allowed us to design a free-form, 3-dimensional sculpture for the vertical pillars and bottom rails. Doughboy wanted the plastic parts to look like stone, so worked with vendors to get the right combination of colors to achieve the desired effect. The steel wall pattern was designed to create an overall cohesive design with this new frame.

Doughboy Pool – Diamond Anniversary
Printing Process: Rotogravure
Doughboy wanted a sophisticated two-color
wall that would be the signature pool for their 60 year anniversary. I designed a classic yet modern pool wall with the assistance of the product development department. We utilized the vertical embellishments to tie the pool together by using the vertical top rail and top cap and added the vertical skirts at the top and bottom.

Lomart Pool – Interlude
Printing Process: Rotogravure
Just like the other walls, I designed and oversaw the printing. After a pool was set up for both Doughboy and Lomart divisions, I also oversaw the photography, where at times our location was less than impressive; so once files were received I would create the beautiful backyard, which could include people and landscape. A before and after is shown.

Doughboy Royal Liner
Printing Process: Rotogravure
This was one of Doughboy's first beaded type liner. They wanted the look to be rich and elegant, hence the deep dark blue and the gold colors.

Product Design
As a graphic designer I never thought I'd be working with an engineering department to enhance the product by designing wall/liner patterns, but I was fortunate enough to do exactly that. The printing process for the metal pool walls and vinyl liners was rotogravure, so the way I had to make-ready the artwork was very different than the process I was use to. This was very challenging but exciting.
